If you find yourself in Bukit Mertajam, Malaysia, make a pit stop at the Gorkhali Nepali Restaurant. Nestled along Jalan Datuk Ooh Chooi Cheng, this charming establishment brings the rich flavors of Nepal to your plate. With a simple yet inviting setup, Gorkhali boasts a menu full of delightful dishes that highlight the unique influences of Indian and Tibetan cuisine on Nepali food.
One of the standout offerings here is undoubtedly the momos. During your visit, you'll also want to try the chicken curry rice set, which comes with that same irresistible sauce, and the option to add rice at no additional charge. The Nepali Thali set is another highlight, allowing you to explore a variety of flavors, including the Khasi Ko Masu (mutton curry) and the popular Pani Puri with mint sauce.

I came here the first time. Very simple set up for a restaurant, simple menu, most of the items I had to google them to know more about the food. The staff speaks fluent Malay, and she can explain the food well. I am a big fan of Momo, and so I ordered one to try (takeaway). The momo has thin skin (not as thin as xiao long bao), but one of the thinnest I have tasted among many Nepalis restaurant. The fillings are satisfactory, and I absolutely love the sauce that comes with it. I have no idea what ingredients constitute to the sauce. But it has some peppercorn smell, which gives a very subtle numbing effect. It was very good. A set of 10 momos cost rm12 which is kinda reasonable. I will revisit to try other items. ----------------- Second visit update. I tried their chicken curry rice set. It comes with the same sauce I mentioned above, love it. The rice can be added at no additional charge. There are many nepali / north Indian products for purchase. One of my favorites was the pani puri papad.

They have nice tasting "momos" here. Right pitch of salt. Better than the ones I had in New Delhi last year.

A taste of Nepal Today we really dove into the Nepali food culture fully, and tried most of the available dishes. Nepali food is really interesting to me, it has a lot of Indian and Tibetan influence, but Nepali people have really made the dishes their own. Nepali Thali set with Khasi Ko Masu (Mutton Curry) Pani puri with mint sauce Momo – Chicken Dumpling Fried Chau Chau (Nepali Fried Noddle)
